Above you can see the Figma mockup I made to guide my eye as I move the site forward.
I'm trying to move fast, so I just reused a few images to get myself started. You can get a feel for where I think this site is heading from looking at that.
I've also made life a little easier for myself. I created the first few html templates for these blog posts.
I can now select from a list of 4 templates when I make these blog posts, and the template just pretty much works.
Obviously, I am adding new features as we speak. In the future, I expect to add:
- a simple gallery
- blog filtering by subject: art/music/programming/all
- gallery filtered/sorted
- email subscription service
- make prints available for certain images
- blog entries to feature each artwork and song that I have created, added in serially, over time
Pen and ink of a bird house I saw at my mother-in-law's house up in the Upper Peninsula (UP) Michigan.
I liked the textures and weathered look of it. I'm a fan of what all that negative space does for the image. The power line in the background gives it a bit of contrast.
I did this a few years back now. Can't remember when anymore. I like how it turned out.
This drawing is a pen and ink self-portrait I was asked to do in art school. The assignment was to create a subjective self portrait. So I put it on fancy parchment paper, which I love, I used an old-fashioned pen with a nib, and I used brown ink. I incorporated ones and zeroes because my output did seem to be increasingly digital at that point, which is fun, but I am also a little sad because I also love physical mediums. So this shows both sides.
It seems a good deal of my work leans toward exploring the relationships between the digital and the analog worlds. I like that.
Thank you for visiting my corner of the internet.
I am building this website to showcase my interests in art, music, and software development.
I see art as a generic term for a nearly infinite field of mediums, including music and software development.
I don't have an artist statement. More of a questions guy. I make art because it trains my senses to recognize what is beautiful around me. The more I focus on art, the better my life ends up being.
Lately, that has meant taking reference photos, finding little secret perspectives, and trying to inspire some image that will tell me if it should be pen & ink, watercolor, acrylic, acoustic, electric, analog or digital.
This website is very much in development at the time of writing this blog post. I'm sure if you come back later, things will be advancing along.
Enjoy this anthropomorphized spatula.
